Fundraising

Sechelt Hospital Foundation constantly raises funds and awareness, whether through its ongoing campaigns, special events or specialized capital campaigns.

Annual Campaign

In order to continue building better facilities, sourcing life-saving equipment and investing in the continuing education of our health care staff, our team needs your support.  The Annual Campaign funds new and replacement equipment at Sechelt Hospital, such as a new digital x-ray machine or ultrasound.  Please consider making a donation to Sechelt Hospital Foundation’s annual fund before the end of the year. You will receive an income tax receipt for the full value of your gift.

Community Shot Campaign

“ The pandemic has presented many challenges but it’s nice to know that with vaccines becoming available, we should soon be back to more normal lives with friends and family. When your turn comes, as a gesture of thankfulness for the opportunity to receive your vaccine, please consider making a contribution to the Sechelt Hospital Foundation to support the work they do with the Sechelt Hospital.” LEARN MORE

Memorial Giving Campaign

There are many ways in which you can make a gift in memory of a loved one, friend or colleague, from a gift in lieu of flowers to a lasting commemoration. No matter which you choose, your memorial donation will help support the work of the Sechelt Hospital Foundation and ultimately enhance health care in our community. At the same time, a memorial gift celebrates the memory of this special person and the impact they made on your life.

Your donation is a gift of health to thousands who need the health and lifesaving services of the Sechelt Hospital each year. Unless you indicate otherwise on your donation form, your gift will be used to support the area of greatest need at Sechelt Hospital.

Grateful Patient Campaign

Sechelt Hospital cares for thousands of patients each year—patients like you who have experienced the exceptional care provided by our physicians, nurses, health care providers and support staff. If one of our staff members (or a staff team) has made a real difference for you or a loved one, please show how much you appreciate their extraordinary care by making a donation to the Sechelt Hospital Foundation in their honour. By making a tax-deductible donation to Sechelt Hospital Foundation, you can show our dedicated staff just how much you appreciate their care, while helping to purchase urgently-needed medical equipment and improve our health care facilities.

Your gift of gratitude will honour the staff member/ team you have named, and will be dedicated to the area of greatest need at Sechelt Hospital.  The staff member or team you commend will receive recognition of your generosity and a thoughtful thank you card passing on your personal message of appreciation.

Planned Giving Campaign

A planned or future donation, sometimes called a legacy gift, is a gift from your estate. It means you can support the hospital without impacting your finances today, while receiving tax benefits now and later. Your gift could have more of an impact than you have ever imagined. If you have decided to remember Sechelt Hospital Foundation through a planned or legacy gift, please let us know. You will be invited to join our Legacy Circle and to participate in special learning and recognition events. Gifts through your will, life insurance policies, publicly traded securities, retirement funds, charitable remainder trusts, and gifts of property, art or other valuables are all considered planned gifts and can create a lasting legacy through careful financial planning. Please speak to your financial advisor, and contact us if you’d like to have a discussion regarding the options available and how your gift could be used to enhance health care in our community.

Our Past Campaigns

‘Back the CAT’

In 2006, the Foundation’s Board of Directors embarked on a major fundraising campaign to purchase and install a CT Scanner at Sechelt Hospital. Under the direction of the Fund Development Committee of the Board, the Dr. Walter Burtnick Memorial Fundraising campaign was created, with its slogan ‘Back the CAT’. Sechelt Hospital Foundation along with its major partner, the Sechelt Hospital / Healthcare Auxiliary, surpassed its goal by raising more than $2.7 million in sixteen months. Today, Sunshine Coast residents receive CT scans at home in the new hospital facility developed to house the equipment.

‘Gettin’ Equipt’

The Sechelt Hospital redevelopment project was a $44 Million project to expand and enhance Sechelt Hospital to help meet the anticipated needs of the community to 2030.

The ‘Gettin’ Equipt’ campaign was a joint initiative of the Sechelt Hospital Foundation and the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary to raise $2 million dollars for the purchase of specialized furnishings and clinical equipment for the new hospital tower. The generosity of our many donors helped us reach our fundraising goal a year earlier than planned, and examples of the numerous items purchased with the support of our community include:

  • Intensive Care Beds ($48K)
  • Articulating Arm for Trauma Emergency ($48K)
  • Furnishing a room ($50K)

The new tower was complete in spring 2013 and renovations to the original hospital facility — including a new expanded Ambulatory Care Area — will follow, with completion expected in 2014.
